The Global Health Summer program is planned and organized by summer school alumni, medical doctors, and staff members of the German Affiliate of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) with the support of Charité University Medicine.

Alumni usually include students and young professionals from Germany and abroad. Through a collaborative planning process, the Global Health Summer program is the product of international and interdisciplinary exchange and the commitment of many people of many backgrounds. 

We also encourage international alumni and IPPNW student chapters to engage in the organisation of side events in their home countries during the Global Health Summer program and to seek ways of strengthening Global South-North dialogues. 

The one-day Global Health conference is organized in cooperation with the German Platform for Global Health. 

The international Medical Peace Work partnership has been a partner of the GHS since 2015.

IPPNW is a non-governmental federation of national medical groups in 62 countries, representing tens of thousands of medical doctors, medical students, other health workers, and concerned citizens who share the common goal of creating a more peaceful and secure world freed from the threat of nuclear annihilation. The IPPNW Germany works on three substantive programmes: First, the abolition of nuclear weapons and nuclear energy, informing the public about atomic energy, the threat of a catastrophe in the case of a reactor accident, its impact on public health and about the lobbying efforts by the energy companies in German politics. Second, the development of a “Culture of Peace” to raise the awareness of civil society for conflicts. The department of Social Medicine, Epidemiology and Health Economics (Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin) aims to understand more about the impact of the globalisation process on health. The objective is to explore the processes and determinants that influence health throughout the world, focusing in particular on the health impact of Globalisation, the global distribution of health, and changes in global health governance. Medical Peace Work is an emerging field of expertise in health work, violence prevention and peace building.

Medical Peace Work is a partnership of medical organizations and teaching institutions committed to the development of this new field of expertise. IPPNW Germany is one of the partner organizations of MPW.
