Global Health Summer | July 20th- 27th, 2019
Migration and the Health-Security Nexus: Critical Perspectives
The Institute for Social medicine, Epidemiology and Health Economics (Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin) and IPPNW Germany offer a one-week full-time course in Global Health challenges in general and the interactions of migration, health and security.
Objective
Theoretical analysis and practical relevance determine the course of our collaborative summer school. It allows joint analysis of complex interactions between globalisation and health. The focus will be on problem- and case-based and participatory learning. Input from experts, internet based research, manuscript analysis, group work, case-studies, presentations and excursions to projects are part of the overall programme. The course is relevant not only to medical students and public health students, but also to others working within health and health systems.
The objective of the Summer School is to introduce the students to complex interactions between globalisation and health with a critical focus on narratives constructing migration as a health-security threat. Furthermore the topic of last year’s course "Ethics and Economisation" in combination with this years focus will provide the basis for a one-day Global Health Conference with the topic "Global Health Security in Times of Neoliberalism" on July 20th.
Speakers
Speakers come from national and international institutions of higher education. Persons with specific global health competence and experience are also part of the faculty.
Course certificate
A course certificate will be issued upon completion of the course.

The course is taught in English. Lectures are held between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. There will be one or more social arrangements in the evening depending on the course participants’ interests and own requests.
